Whether you’re just getting going with an online business or you’ve been around awhile and seeking a new way to network, have a look at what Twitter can do. Part chat program and part tiny blog, you’ll find that the Twitter user interface is one that could change the way you interact with your current clients and likely customers globally. Here are 5 reasons Twitter is a mighty marketing tool for internet business owners like you.

1. It’s Short, Sweet & To the Point

Have you ever heard the phrase, less is more? You’ll find that one of the best things about Twitter is that it keeps all messages very short and sweet. You’ll have to give your customers and clients the gist of what is going on in short tweets (messages similar to instant messages) that allow their interest to be piqued in such a way as to make them inquire further. You won’t bother them with tedious messages that make them yawn and move on. Instead, you’ll be able to catch their attention promptly and make them desire to know more.

2. Instantaneousness

Much like a blog or an RSS feed, you could get access to the people that use Twitter regularly. In some ways, this is like making sure that you could reach them no matter where they are, and you will find that this is very important when you want to make marketing one of your biggest priorities. You’re making sure that they’ve all of the latest updates to what you are doing and what’s happening by simply sending a tweet their way.

3. Everyone’s Doing It

In many ways, Twitter is a social platform more than it is a marketing one, and you’ll find that using Twitter could assist you in feeling a good deal closer to your client base and other’s in your online community. If you’re looking to be sure that they see you as a person rather than as simply a company or service, you’ll find that Twitter encourages them to think of you as someone they could get to know. This could be very crucial when it pertains to instituting a client base and customer allegiance.

4. You Get to Hear a Good Deal

Remember that it goes both ways; you could put information out on Twitter and you could also learn a lot too. By following other’s Twitter accounts, particularly if it looks like they have a lot to offer, you could keep in the know about assorted products, services, and other occurrences online. This could be a great way to keep an eye on what is happening in order to keep yourself in the know of your industry.

5. Make Them Laugh

You could also apply Twitter to tease people a bit bit, in a fun way, of course! When you use Twitter, you have to keep your messages short, and in many ways, a little cryptic. Pique their interest, joke around, and you’ll find that you gain a lot more followers and hopefully website traffic and customers as a result.

Be warned, just as with any other social networking site, Twitter could rapidly become addicting if you let it. Don’t go overboard and get so involved in all the tweeting that it removes from your intended purpose. Used wisely Twitter could be a great and potent marketing tool to help create online commercial enterprise success.

For those looking to gain more clients, Twitter is an awesome way to do so. The best part is that it really isn’t all that hard and doesn’t take a ton of time or money to do so.

Maybe you just want to reach more people, or perhaps you are in a situation where you want to make sure that the people around you understand what it is you do in order to help them decide if they can use your product or services. In any case, have a look at the growing popularity of Twitter.

A combination of a chat or instant messaging service and a blog, Twitter is a great way to gain a broader audience. Simply by being yourself and showing other what it is you do via tweets (messages) or from word of mouth from current customers, you stand the chance of gaining more clients.

The thing about Twitter is that the abbreviated length can do you a great service. You have the chance to convey the information that you need to get across without being too wordy or having potential clients get distracted while looking at your website. Because of this short and to the point way of communicating you have the ability to pique your potential client’s interest so that they will click your link to learn more. Sending them back to your website to learn more about you, the service you provide or the product you sell is what you’re after here.

You also have the ability to send potential clients to specific areas of your website in order to find the information they need. This will save them time and that’s always a plus. They want specific information and if you can give it to them with a few words and a link to the direct page on your site with this information, they will love you for it. For instance, if you’re a service provider, the next time someone asks you what your rates are, you can send them directly to your rates page to find the answers they need immediately.

After you’ve been on Twitter for awhile you will start to see the word of mouth concept flying around everywhere. If one of your current customers is a member of Twitter and you’ve just returned an awesome project to them, especially if they happen to be chatting on Twitter when they get the email, they will more than likely sing your praises to their followers. Twitter has quickly become a place where many business owners go to ask for recommendations of service providers for certain tasks they need completed. You’ll even find some businesses recruiting writers, web designers, blog installers and more when they need something done. Twitter has a viral nature and quickly your name and what you do can be passed on to many people.

If you contribute to conversations and let people know you are out there, you will find that your tweets as well as your website URL will be passed around and shared. Make sure that you take advantage of this positive way to get your name out there. Many people use Twitter, and you’ll find that this familiarity is one thing that can help you distinguish yourself from the herd.

So you have either just created a brand new website or you have an older website but it is not generating the kind of traffic and results you would like. Have you tried using Squidoo? I became a giant squid at the end of June 2008 and so I have quite a bit of knowledge and experience about how to use squidoo to generate traffic to your website or websites. Here are seven secrets you can apply immediately to help you increase your web traffic using squidoo.

1. Create a wide variety of lenses. Although it is completely fine and necessary to create a couple of lenses which are focused specifically on your business, you also need to create some lenses focused on your hobbies, famous people, TV shows and other topics which have nothing to do with your business. These other lenses will attract a different kind of traffic and market and will introduce people to your business who may not have been searching for a business when they found you but who may become curious by what you have to offer.

2. Make sure to include links to your various websites in your lenses by mixing them into your content. It also helps if you can find some way of making the link relevant to the topic of the lens.

3. Include links to other useful and relevant blog posts, and websites. You need to make each lens a useful resource for the topic and not just a collection of material about and by you. They must contain information by others as well.

4. Keep your lenses updated and fresh. Each lens should be updated at least twice a month. It is not necessary to completely redo the lens. A quick two minute change of the titles, a few tags or adding one link is all that is needed.

5. Keep your lenses short and too the point. Adding more than 15 modules to any given lens will make it harder to read and a lens that is too long looses the interest of its readers before they reach the end of the lens.

6. Make sure to include at least 6 modules in each lens. Just like you do not want your lens to be too long, it also must not be too short. There is a minimum amount of information you must include in order for it to be interesting and helpful to your readers.

7. Include a guestbook at the end of each lens and invite reader comments. Ask questions through the lens that encourage your readers to think about your topic and to share their thoughts and feelings with you.

Know that being successful on squidoo takes time but it is well worth it. Learn from those of us who are giant squids and remember practice makes perfect.

SQUA.RE, eVelvet Rope, IN, Nico’s world, Diane Fay, Diamond Lounge, A Cool World, 740 Park, A Small World, Linked In, Hamptons Under Cover, Decayenne, Black Diamond, Plaxo, Pulse, Qube, LStyle…

It may sound like a list of old album covers but actually it is a new media source put to work. They are just a few of the more popular on line social networking clubs. There has been a mass entry of new on line communities. People spend more time on the web then in front of the TV and these clubs, which are free to members, hoping to capture the advertiser’s eye. A recent study done by The Luxury Institute found that Luxury consumers were disappointed in the weakness of luxury brands to meet their on line needs. The truth is that the mass retailers were much earlier to enter the web media and have a much more sophisticated platform now than the luxury brands. The Premium brands turned up their noses initially and their arrogance cost them dearly. They were slow to the high tech world of on line media….but the highly educated, high-net worth individuals are insisting that luxury adapt to their needs. The Luxury Report showed that the majority of the Ultra High Net worth (minimum of 30 million liquid assets) individuals preferred to do their shopping on line. The elite brands now must fight to claim their territory on the web. These private social clubs are hoping that they offer the advertisers the perfect media entre. The plethora of new exclusive social networking clubs is competing for unique features to meet the demands of their audience. Several of the most elite social clubs air video podcast (on demand viewing on your computer) from THE LUXURY CHANNEL on iTunes & Zune. The video podcasts are small web TV shows that you watch on your computer or down load to a cell phone or iPod. iTunes is enormous and offers the largest market as it is truly world wide. Zune directory was founded this year as a joint venture between Microsoft and Adobe. Experts believe it will take 10 years for it to be as big as iTunes.

The grand daddy of the successful social networking clubs was A Small World, referred to as ASW, which was started in Europe with the time appropriate fact that the world has become a small place and people of a certain financial and social prestige are doing business with each other around the globe. As one climbs the pyramid, the degree of separation decreases. ASW created an on line social network to assist this group in connecting with other like minded people to socialize, get restaurant recommendations, travel tips, the hot local party, event information, etc. It is an invitation only club with approximately 130,000 members. The founders have stepped out of the management and so it is run by "middle management types" with no real authority or inspiration. Some members feel that it is lacking the creativity that it takes to keep it from going stale. ASW has no video, no podcasts, the staff is surly, etc. ASW did a great job initially of keeping it exclusive. I personally have been impressed when I use it traveling in Europe or the Middle East more than in the U.S. Many members complain about Germanic rigid structure of the rules for membership. Most find it too confining and the website itself is not "sexy" but archaic and slow. .

I find that many of the individuals on my ASW network use Facebook much more on a daily basis for staying in touch with friends. The fact that so many ASWers are on Facebook means that they are not meeting their member’s needs. Facebook has the easiest format to use and the most fun and creative ways to stay in touch with friends from sending them a virtual drink, fashion accessory, poke, bumper sticker, etc. You can add video and photos and it seems to have been successful in not attracting the My Space crowd despite the fact that anyone can join.

Several other new generation sites have grown out of ASW to fill niches that they find that ASW missed. SQUA.RE was founder by two 25 year old ASW members and they target a young urban international jet set crowd. Their format allows all members a channel to run their videos instead of a static page. It is invitation only. They are targeting the tech savvy affluent 18 to 35 year olds. My interaction with the owners was positive; they seem like a sharp hip fun group.

eVelvet Rope is an invitation only social club also founded by an ASW member. EVR is going after the young professional single and newly married that have a lot of expendable income, like to go out and eat and can travel and stay at nice hotels (But not like the ASWers that take their private jet to their own villa). They have EVRMag.com which is an on line magazine open to the public. Again my interactions with the founder were very positive. He is very professional and serious about having a great club.

Diane Fay is trying to do the same thing but is focused on Asia primarily, although the founders are Europeans. They seem to have some bugs to work out of their site. There is a fundamental flaw in a networking site that won’t allow you to connect to build a network. I spent several days attempting to grow my network, but all my connections said they had never figured out how to connect either. I sent off an email to the website for help on 3 occasions and no one answered. Initially upon joining I got several nice welcome emails from the partners and senior staff telling me they want to speak with me in 2 weeks when they returned from traveling……..it has now been 5 weeks and I still have not heard back from them. I did attempt to reach out to them again 2 weeks ago. I’d have to say pleasant, but no follow through as far as management is concerned.

Qube is new and is an off shoot of Quintessentially which is an international concierge service. This allows their members to reach out to their non members in an on line social format. It kind of works on the "friends of rich people are probably rich too" theory. It is very new and I had difficulty setting up my page, but was nicely assisted by their IT person. I have reached out to management and will see if and how they respond. When I clicked on one of the founders names of Quintessentially on the Qube membership network and it said he had not been on line for a year!

LinkedIN is a big networking service focused on work. They have really grown. I have to say that my first LinkedIn event I attended was in NYC at a bad art gallery where they had bags of pretzels poured out on paper plates and "pour your own" Glen Ellen jug wine. Needless to say it was also my last LinkedIN event.

Plaxo and Pulse seem to be trying to combine social and work but anyone can join so no exclusivity and it often just becomes annoying.

A Cool World runs Stealth Wealth and has different degrees of "éliteness" as you can be an Alpha or a Beta member. The membership is by approval only and I was shocked that when I joined they already had my photo and professional title. Alpha membership allows you into the exclusive 740 Park club.

LStyle is another new European club more concentrated in Scandinavian countries. There is nothing particularly unique about it. I did reach out to the owners and they seemed more confused than anything. I think it will take them a while to figure things out.

Hampton’s Under Cover is brand new…they haven’t even taken the bubble wrap off…too soon to tell.

You are the asset and these on line clubs are vying for. They need the demographic mix to sell advertising to the "trying to catch up" luxury brands. The web based social clubs can be a very affective tool if you use them correctly. What ever your situation there will be a club with a unique twist to make it your perfect match….and if not, start your own!

If you have been on the Internet for any length of time you can be sure that you have received numerous invitations to join various social network organizations. Unlike some people I simply can not spend time on those social sites or I would never manage to get anything accomplished that I need to do. It doesn’t seem practical to sign up for everyone that sends me an invitation.

A better solution would be to at least sign up for those which you may deem to be important in regards to your niche. Immediately go to the profile page and create your personal profile. If you find that it is not to your advantage to remain in these network merely stop going there. You will eventually select several which you plan to contribute to as a result of its usefulness to you.

Using blogs for SEO

I had always considered blogs to be an internet feature that was reserved for geeks that were overly self opinionated zealots who tended to push their own political agenda. Or they were an assortment of teenage school children who complained about getting another zit while using language that bordered upon one of two extremes. The first was it put a blush on many a sailors while the second one would require the translation services of a rocket scientist to interrupt it.

I finally changed my thinking in regards to these blog entries and realized that the blog could very well be used as a tool for SEO purposes. In its most basic form it resembled spamming however it should be completed properly it can certainly get your web site spidered almost immediately.

It seems to be a very effective method to write pages into your blog which you want Google and Yahoo to locate and index. Since you previously had setup a yahoo page and you now ping it to let it know that you have new information posted yahoo will automatically spider the feed since it does so with ever feed on its pages.

Linking to your business site

When you use the social network blogs and post various messages it becomes a simple matter to link to your business site. You will first place this link in your profile which will be available for all people to view. Then any messages which you post should clearly have your website listed in your email signature.

This is simple yet effect if you do the same with each and every blog that you go to.

Ways to make it work for you

I have tried to explain several means for which you can readily get the recognition you need for your website from both the social networking site as well as the blogs, now it’s up to you. You must take the time to go to these sites and carefully place your information on them in an effort to draw clients and customers to your site. The ball is now in your field so it’s up to you to take it and run!

Have you ever joined a social networking site and immediately noticed that you were immediately bombarded with business opportunities and no one was interested in what you offered? But when you joined, you thought a social networking site was a great place to find people for your business. After all, that is your purpose for joining - right? Right. Well, it is a way to find targeted people as well as a place to socialize. Thus, building quality relationships is crucial to your success.

Here are a few tips that will enhance your social networking experience.

Things to do when customizing your profile:

1. When building your profile, post your picture. It makes your site more personable and inviting. People relate to you better and people do business with those they know, like & trust. And, it is easier to trust someone who you feel is open and not trying to hide something.

2. Although you want to share a little about yourself, keep your profile simple (uncluttered) and short. If it’s too cluttered or too long most people won’t stay long enough to find the important information. Besides, you can always point them to your blog or website where they can find out more about you.

3. When customizing your profile, offer some type of free service that will benefit them. In other words, your site should not be just about advertising your product. If people don’t know you, it’s not likely they will buy from you anyway just because they visited your profile. Aside from than, they are probably not looking for a business, they are like you, looking for people to join them in business.

So, in what ever way you can, be of assistance to your visitor. Provide them something of quality that they will find useful.

Things to do to build relationships:

1. If you’re new to a community or network, people can easily find you and the traffic will come. Many will sign your guest book or make comments on your profile. When they do, be sure to visit them and reciprocate, thank them for visiting or make some other comment.

2. After you’ve been a member a while and the visitors stop, you need to do something to get traffic. You do this by making comments on other people’s sites, whether it’s someone new to the community or new to a network you’ve joined. Read their profile to find a common interest and add your comment or sign their guestbook based upon that. Don’t post a canned comment, show genuine interest.

This will do two things: 1) bring them to your profile and 2) bring their visitors to your profile. This is cross-trafficking. That is another reason you want to comment when someone visits you.

3. If yo have made friends and know their birthdays, be sure to extend birthday greetings. They would surely appreciate you for that.

But remember, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, leave an advertisment on someone’s guest book or comments. That is netiquette 101. Your signature file is not the place for that. Use your signature file in emails or on blog/forum posts. You can, however, link to someone or something of interest or humorous (just remember to be professional). For instance, my friend & mentor, Art Jonak has a link to the world’s largest swimming pool as a place to visit when you have the time & money to do so.

4. Send private messages and/or friend’s requests. If sending a private message, ask a question that will elicit a response so you can keep the communication going. But, DON’T SPAM (forgive me for shouting). People hate it — don’t you? Your objective at the social sites is to build relationships. If you have your own network, you can invite them to join your network.

If you join social networking sites for advertisement purposes only, you have little to no chance of succeeding and you probably won’t stick around. But, when you build those quality relationships, your business will grow although it won’t happen overnight so be there for the long haul. Things change in people’s lives so it’s all about timing. You never know when someone is ready for what you have to offer.

You will notice from these tips social networking is "work" but well worth it. You will have to be an active user of the site. To be active, join a few networks and participate in a few of the forums. Just be careful not to let it consume all your time as that can easily happen. Devote a couple hours per day to this activity (if you can) and you will be well on your way to building your empire if you stick with it long enough to allow the slight edge principle kick in. The slight edge principle is doing the seemingly small things that are easy to do (but just as easy not to do) consistently over time.

These are the same techniques I am successfully using to build relationships and my business. They will also work for you. I have met some really great friends and some of them have become life-long business partners.

So, Happy Social Networking and be empowered to prosper!

Are you new to MySpace and want to make your page really stand out? It’s relatively a simple procedure to dress up your pages.

Basically there are 2 things you can do to make your pages stand out.
1. Add a Layout
2. Add Graphics

Let’s consider adding a Layout first. There are many Myspace resource web sites out there that have thousands of pre-made layouts for your use. See below for a few or type in ‘Free Myspace Layouts’ into your favorite search engine. Just browse through their many offerings and find the layout you like and copy the code for that layout. Then login into your myspace account and click on ‘edit profile’. Under the section titled ‘about me’ paste that code. That’s it - you’ve changed the layout for your page. Click on ‘view profile’ and you will see the new layout.

OK, so now you’re an expert in changing your layout but you’re not happy with what you’ve found out there on the net and you have ideas of what you want your site to look like. Now, you’re ready to create your own layout. All that you need for this is a background picture and a Layout Generator. You can get your background picture from free graphics all over the net or from graphics you have on your own computer - maybe even personal photographs. The layout generator can also be gotten from the web. Many sites have Layout Generators. The better ones let you upload your images right on the page so that you don’t have to store your images elsewhere (a pain). With this tyep of Layout Generator you can customize colors of your sections, text, backgrounds, etc. and truly make your page unique.

OK, so now you have your layout and want to do more to spice up your page. Now you probably want to add some graphics. Well you’ve got an overwhelming choice of graphics on the net that you can add to your page. Glitter graphics, word graphics, animated graphics, talking graphics, and more. Graphics can be found under many categories on Myspace resource sites. The most obvious is ‘Graphics’. Search the net for ‘Free Myspace Graphics’ using your favorite search engine. You can also find some cool graphics under the category of ‘Generators’. Here you can find things like Animated graphics, CD covers, calendars, clocks, radio stations, scrolling signs, mp3 players, picture cubes, etc. How do you add them to your site? Simple. Again, click on the code next to the item and copy it to any section in your myspace profile. They will show up in that section on your myspace page. There’s also a new feature out there on some websites that let you skip the step of copying and pasting in order to make updates to your pages. They contain a ‘widget’ that lets you click on MySpace and the graphics or layouts automatically are placed on your myspace pages.

The advanced user would then want to know how to modify HTML coding in their profile. This is a topic for another day as you’ve done enough for now and you Myspace page looks great.

FreeDiskSpace.com, started in 1999, officially changed its name from My Space in 2002. Now Free Disk Space is the premier myspace resource site with many myspace graphics, myspace layouts, myspace codes, myspace backgrounds, myspace pimps, myspace generators, and myspace glitter.

Members of the facebook community are now taking advantage of being able to stage events in growing numbers. An event can be a webinar, teleseminar, or a recording of a presentation or seminar. Events can be powerful tools to reach large numbers of facebook participants with useful information or entertainment. In order to make an event as successful as possible, key steps must be followed. This article will outline those steps.

To set up an event, simply enter your facebook profile area and click on the tab in the left hand navigation area.Next, Go ahead and click the tab that reads, "create an event," and you are ready to go!

You will have the opportunity to name your event. The naming of your event is of crucial importance. Give it some serious thought, Once you name your event it CANNOT be changed! The name of your event should correlate to your area of interest or expertise as expressed in your profile. You want people to link you with a particular expertise, as it builds your credibility. Selecting a humorous title can be effective. People are more drawn to events that sound like fun!

It is a good idea, most of the time, to open up your Facebook event to the entire Facebook community. Limiting attendance to just your friends may not give you enough exposure. Go ahead and list your host’s name, and the type of event being planned. Next, you will write a brief description of the event. The description must outline the purpose of the event, the importance of the event, and the basic content that will be provided. Much like the name of your event, creating humor within your description can be effective.

Make sure you give careful thought for how long you want your event to be. It should be long enough to cover the content, but not so long that it bores people. Remember, you want people to return for your next event! If your event is going to be a webinar, write in "webinar" where "location" is listed on the event listing page.

With a Facebook event, it is important that you give your participants plenty of lead time. The "rule of thumb" is about one week. The Facebook system will give participants the opportunity to confirm attendance. It is important that you remind participants at least 3 times about the event. make sure that one of the reminders is on the day of the event.

Staging events is just one way to market to the facebook community. For expert training in marketing to the social networks, Renegade University offers FREE attraction marketing guidance.
Entrepreneurs involved in social networking are already feeling the time crunch when it comes to adding this effective marketing tool to the mix. Smart entrepreneurs utilize other people’s talents and energies in their businesses by outsourcing administrative tasks, so it begs the question: can you outsource your social networking too?

Yes and No.

Successful social networking is built upon relationship building and credibility. If you have someone else doing all your social networking, then at some point it’s going to become obvious that it’s not really you. How will that help your reputation, your credibility, and the relationship building you’re setting out to achieve?

Think of it this way: if you were invited to an in-person event where you could meet some amazing contacts, would you send your assistant to represent you? Most entrepreneurs (especially solopreneurs and consultants) wouldn’t be able to do this. When you’re representing your company, YOU are the one who makes the impression.

The following lists show simple tasks that can be delegated out, and things that you want to make sure you’re personally doing. You don’t want to risk your reputation by farming out sensitive communication to someone other than yourself so read on and safeguard yourself.

10 Things you CAN Outsource:

1. Short birthday greetings

2. Grouping Facebook friends into mailing lists

3. Inviting people to join your groups (provide a template invite and criteria of who can be invited)

4. Setting up post dated Tweets on the site Tweet Later.

5. Signing you up for all the many social networking sites and uploading your basic bio, photo, URLs, etc.

6. Social bookmarking articles and blog posts

7. Uploading photos, videos, etc.

8. Optimizing photos, videos, etc.

9. Integrating your many social networking profiles with sites like FriendFeed, Ping, or Hellotxt.

10. Making sure your Twitter Tweets pop up all over the place, like on Plaxo, LinkedIn, or MySpace.

10 Things NOT to Outsource

1. Any kind of generic "Thanks for the add!" response for people’s Facebook walls.

2. Fake blog comments that are veiled attempts to get people to visit your web site or buy your stuff.

3. Status updates. Do I really need to explain why that is ultra lame?

4. Boilerplate promotions for a class… that you "just happened" to leave on people’s walls.

5. Answering your personal messages.

6. Proposing joint ventures. This can come across as arrogant if not done well. People like to feel special, like you noticed them (not like you’re a royal subject being summoned by the Queen!)

7. Writing on people’s Facebook walls. Once again, it’s super obvious that it’s not you.

8. Any kind of comments (especially the generic ones) on people’s photos, videos, etc. OK, maybe "Nice picture!" is passable, but even that is kind of shallow.

9. Rabid friend acquiring.

10. Recommendations (unless you pre-wrote and pre-approved them) on LinkedIn.

Share this list with your team members and brainstorm other ways you can ease up your time spent online without losing the personal touch.
